What is Nada Yoga?
Nada Yoga—the Yoga of Sound—is one of the most ancient and profound branches of yogic science. Rooted in the Sanskrit word “Nada”, meaning sound or vibration, Nada Yoga explores the universe and the self through deep listening and attunement to subtle frequencies, both external and internal.
At its essence, Nada Yoga teaches that everything in the universe is in a state of vibration, including our physical bodies, thoughts, emotions, and the energy that surrounds us. By consciously working with sound—through voice, breath, mantra, instruments, and silence—practitioners learn to align with these vibrations, quiet the mind, and awaken higher states of consciousness.
Elements of Nada Yoga
-
External Sound (Ahata Nada): The audible sounds we create and perceive—such as chanting, singing bowls, mantras, and instruments—used to focus the mind, open the heart, and shift energy.
-
Internal Sound (Anahata Nada): The subtle, inner sound that arises in deep states of meditation or stillness. Often described as a “cosmic hum,” this sound is said to be the pure vibration of consciousness itself.
-
Mantra & Sacred Sound Practices: Reciting mantras, seed syllables (bija), and vocal toning as tools for clearing the energy channels (nadis), activating the chakras, and cultivating spiritual insight.
-
Deep Listening & Awareness: Developing refined listening as a meditative skill, both to the world around you and your inner landscape. This creates sensitivity, presence, and intuition in your work as a sound healer or teacher
